Wartime Spotlight: The Sararit Centaurs

07/02/253 ASU

The plan to stay in southern Erdashu and destroy the UTC’s vassals was a solid plan via attrition was solid, but it’s taking too long. The UTC owns too much territory and too many resources in northern Erdashu, the central Tomchaka strait and islands, southern Huilapole, and their northern Huilapole states. Therefore, the new plan was to take northern Erdashu and kick the UTC off the continent.

The legion’s Hetmen competed to see who would reach the inner sea first, capturing settlments and fortresses as they went, and it was the 68th Legion which eventually besieged the key port city of Massawa. The other legions were days behind.

Then a horde of 600 monsters stormed across the tropical savanna.

They possessed the body of a titan spider, with the upper half of tomchakan druids attached to the creature’s removed head, stitched together with magic to give the druid full control over the spider’s powerful body.

They wore steel-plated armor thick enough to deflect bullets and swords. Their empowered human arms easily swung giant halberds, their titan spider legs smashed through armor and shattered elven bones, and their spider mandibles consumed their defeated foes.

They fought with coordinated efficiency, broken into ranks of six per squad. They had painted spirals on their rear ends, blue was the most common, red seemed to be for squad leaders, and green perhaps denoted the commander of a group of squads. They chittered and screeched as they fought, working to corral our forces into manageable kill zones.

We slayed 70 in that battle, but 3,100 elves died before we were forced to abandon the siege.

This druidic abomination will certainly become a staple in battles ahead, but we’ve dealt with their kind before. It’s just a matter of learning how to kill these monsters.

Minor Powers Pile On Protectorate’s War

16/07/251 ASU

As is so often the case for this Mantle Era, when our troops are committed to one location everyone else feels the need to act up. The war against the United Tomchaka Covens is proving to be a manageable slog that we will win in time despite their beasts and traps and magics. What complicates our inevitable victory is the rest of Relgan has exploded, and forces from other worlds have joined.

We’ve received reports of at least three Black Fleets operating on the waters of Relgan’s southern hemisphere, based on the Hapish region of the southern continent, the Manauas state of Southern Apea, and somewhere south of the Lwazi Peninsula.

The Firryan Liberation Front we helped in Northern Apea a decade ago and the Chaccarn Confederation on Foregone are working together to fund firryan rebel groups in Great Tendor, kicking off a civil war as some princes sided with the firryans.

The nomads of the Ashari tundra have miraculously reconstituted after their near extermination just a few years ago. They lack the Mammoth Spiders thanks to our successful cleansing, but have adopted muskets alongside their classic six-legged horses. They’re encroaching on the settled coasts, and our non-member allies are calling for aid, which we’re honor bound to provide due to anti-nomad treaties.

Then there’s the standard threats that always show up. The Dawn Mercenaries are operating in Apea, the Hurriyya Clans are volunteering, and my contacts say the D’Sev are up to something.

Field Marshall Kiskonski has announced that they will be diverting forces to handle these emerging threats, however the primary focus will remain the UTC. The purpose of this war is to destroy their potential to threaten our interests for at least a generation. But given the changing circumstances, Sir Kiskonski is preparing to invade Tomchaka itself.

Wartime Spotlight: The Erdashu Campaign’s Objectives

23/13/249 ASU

The war against the United Tomchaka Covens is expected to be a long and bloody one, but necessary for our interests on Relgan.

The past half year has seen heavy fighting on the continent Erdashu, mostly in the southern vassal states that belonged to the UTC for centuries. The UTC’s initial push into the Lwazi Peninsula was ill-advised and easily battered aside by the four legions stationed there. We swiftly counter-invaded, leaving a total 40,000 troops behind to defend the peninsula as its ports are the logistics hub supplying our mighty legions.

Our objective for the campaign is to break the back of the UTC. To do this, the legions spread across Erdashu and are occupying the southern states, defeating their armies and capturing cities and fortresses. This forces the UTC to send field armies in response, which we will crush in turn, slowly exhausting the UTC through attrition. Field Marshall Kiskonski does not currently plan to invade the UTC itself.

The UTC’s goal is, similarly, to funnel resources and druids into the Erdashu states to bleed our legions dry. They knew this war was coming and the Sararit Coven spent years fortifying the continent. In a recent battle on the Satowar Lowlands, the druids demolished a dam and emptied a large reservoir. The water poured down the plains and swept away six villages and a mid-sized town, killing 257 peldaks in the process. They saw this as a favorable exchange.

The UTC seems to have learned an important lesson from the D’Sev Wars and the previous decades of conflict. Our legions aren’t an enemy they can defeat with half measures. The might of our soldiers is famed and terrifying, and they need to be willing to do anything to defeat us.

Though ultimately, their sacrifices will be for nothing.

Peldan Star News: September 2026

The UTC Declares War Against The Peldak Protectorate

10/15/249 ASU

Our campaign to cyclically kidnap members of the Sararit Coven’s leadership was going well, with the coven terrified because no guards or bunkers were capable of protecting their leaders, and hundreds of druids would wind up dead every time. Tomchaka’s Great Coven officially protested the Protectorate’s actions but proved unwilling to do what was needed to stop us.

Five months ago, radical druids of the anti-war Sheballa and Kebele Great Covens volunteered to guard Sararit’s newest Traditional Head in his beach house estate.

27 of these radical druids were killed in our raid to capture the him. It was a brilliant plot by the Sararit because various Tomchaka rules of honor dictate that Sheballa and Kebele must respond to us shedding their brother’s blood.

Sheballa, Kebele and over 200 other covens joined a great delegation to the Lwazi Peninsula where they demanded compensation for the deaths inflicted upon members of two covens, and a promise to be more careful in the future. This was purely a face-saving measure; they were trying to avoid a war by imposing completely reasonable terms.

Relgan’s Field Marshall, Kornel ‘Druid Hammer’ Kiskonski, swiftly arrived at the Lwazi Peninsula to meet the delegation. He laughed in their faces, rejected their demands, and had his guards assault the envoys and confiscate a special type of neck wrapping that has historical and civic significance to Tomchaka diplomats.

It was a deliberately provocative action, of course. There would either be war, or the UTC would be humiliated, and the Peldak Protectorate free to operate across their territory.

After three months of deliberations and preparations, the UTC declared war. Their opening assault was a horde of at least 500,000 titan spiders and their riders pouring over the border of the Lwazi Peninsula.

400,000 peldak troops have already engaged.

Daring Ashguard Raid To Capture Sararit Leadership

20/15/248 ASU

Sararit leadership consists of a Traditional Head, Yemane Abay Eyasu, a Chief of Membership, Finhas Leul Giday, the Political Affairs Chief, Edris Teodros Abey, Operations Chief, Seife Zelalem Meles, a Defense Chief, Teshome Girmai Melkamu, and a Chief of Shamanism (druidism), Merhawi Melkamu Mesfin.

Beneath these six chiefs are dozens of ministers who run the day to day affairs of the Sararit Coven. The last 70 years has seen the leadership change frequently, but they’re always hostile to the Protectorate, and they’ve used this hostility to propel themselves into fame and fortune within United Tomchaka Covens politics.

The members of the Sararit Coven adore their leaders and wish to climb the ranks. The druids of other covens hold them in high regard.

They’re seen as the forebearers overseeing a great rise of Tomchaka into the foremost great power on Relgan, competitors to even the mighty Peldak Protectorate. Heroes. Untouchables.

The Ashguard launched an operation to kidnap this leadership. They were dragged to the Lwazi Peninsula and await trial for their many crimes. Many of the details will remain classified for the centuries, but what we know is that they infiltrated Sararit headquarters in the capitol, captured 17 senior members and staffers, killed another 4, and local Tomchaka news states 70 druids were killed with another 20 wounded.

The Lord Protector’s office released a prepared statement.

“We believe the Sararit Coven wants to goad the Protectorate into invading so the people of Tomchaka will rally behind them as saviors. They do not want to declare war themselves because they fear the backlash of having dragged Tomchaka into war. Therefore, we are engaging in a targeted cleanup, specifically against Sararit leadership. When their top positions are replaced, we will repeatedly hunt the new batch of leaders until the coven ceases their hostility.”

Sararit Becomes A Tomchaka ‘Great Coven’

02/10/248 ASU

The UTC’s High Coven is comprised of thousands of registered druid covens, forming the backbone of social, political, and military life. Seats are awarded to the covens based on a complex set of parameters measuring their power and influence within the state. The vast majority of covens only have a single seat because every registered coven is entitled to one vote, but the so-called Great Covens are those who hold a significant percentage.

The number of seats in the High Coven will wax and wane from era to era, but these days it’s made up of 17,513 seats – always an odd number to prevent ties – and Great Covens are those with over 1,000 seats.

With the recent redistribution of seats, and perhaps in response to our recent struggles against the entire Northern Apea region, the openly belligerent Sararit Coven has blown past this requirement to attain 1,349 seats.

While not the largest individual coven, it leads a large power bloc in Tomchaka politics that openly seeks war with the Protectorate to reclaim the Lwazi Peninsula and remove us from ‘their’ continent. When adding the seats of covens closely aligned to Sararit, they control 1,844 votes, over 10% of the High Coven.

Opposing their plans for war are the Shebella and Kebele Great Covens, controlling over 4,200 seats combined, who have expansive ties to countries in Erdashu, which is where most of the fighting would occur. These countries are terrified of war breaking out and have reportedly expended vast political capital with their patrons to keep the peace.

But the Sararit Coven has engaged in a soft war against us, and the Protectorate would have marched in years ago if situations didn’t keep springing up. Conflict is inevitable and my sources hint Sararit’s new status may be the final straw.

Invasion Of United Tomchaka Covens Redirected

10/04/242 ASU

The inevitable invasion against the child-stealing UTC has been delayed

The 18th, 25th, 30th, 50th, 62nd, and 68th Legions were garrisoned in the Lwazi Peninsula, ready to storm into Erdashu on a punative campaign in response to the High Coven awarding more seats to the demonic Sararit Coven. 600,000 peldak troops is a nightmare scenario for any petty statelet in the galaxy, capable of overwhelming any foe. But trouble started brewing on the other side of the planet and it demanded our attention.

Relgan’s new crisis is a regional alliance on the eastern continent, Apea. They recently suffered uprisings by the local firryan populations. The uprisings were crushed relatively quickly, and the nations are claiming that they’re adopting a caste system similar to Great Tendor’s, but really it’s just the return of slavery. The military alliance is intended to prevent us from intervening.

400,000 soldiers are heading east to intervene.

Our legions are invincible and can destroy any foe, but the last 60 years has seen so many things to deal with that we can’t focus on eliminating any for good, so they fester and grow into persistent, dug-in problems. Relgan’s Sararit Coven, Ciratha’s Black Fleet, Monsoo’s Dawn Mercenaries, they’ve been problems for years but we can’t find the time or resources to put them down. This era has been about mitigation.

Apea’s northern states make the mistake of reintroducing slavery, which the Peldak Constitution requires us to prioritize at the expense of other issues. Because we lack the troops to annex a vast region of at least 300 million people, the plan for this punitive campaign is to destroy their field armies and let the firryans fight them. If the civil wars last decades, all the better.

As usual for this era, we’ll return ‘when we’re able’.

Tomchaka Earns Burning Ire Of Peldaks And D’Sev

08/09/235 ASU

While the D’Sev Holy Imperium is a member state of the Peldak Protectorate, it’s a relationship that exists only through treaty. They don’t like us and we don’t like them.

However, the Sararit Coven’s evil had become so gross and vile that, two months ago, our forces set aside their grievances for a daring raid into the heart of the United Tomchaka Covens.

A D’Sev, who requested to remain anonymous, had a prophecy dream about the location of newborn D’Sev Triplets – extremely sacred in D’Sev cosmology – being subjected to the worst forms of torture and mutilation in a druid den of the Sararit Coven. Trusting his dream, D’Sev envoys conducted the proper negotiations for a joint operation into the UTC. They were directed to the Ashguard in the Lwazi Peninsula, who were already tasked with anti-trafficking operations.

A dozen D’Sev and Peldaks snuck into Tomchaka and found the Sararit’s den. They rescued 300 children of human, elf, and D’Sev origins, and killed over a hundred guards and druids. On the return trip they killed another 50 or so citizens of Tomchaka before ultimately returning safely.

The Imperium and Lord Protector’s representatives have released preprepared statements about the operation’s success. The natural information delay from space travel means the representatives had to prepare a variety of responses that correspond to the success or failure of the operation.

If Tomchaka’s reaction to rescuing our children is anything other than a full condemnation of the Sararit Coven for kidnapping them, we will consider this a soft declaration of war, which will be responded to in a moment of our choosing. If the UTC does not apply pressure on their covens to cease their trafficking or experimentations, more operations into the heart of Tomchaka will follow, and they won’t be made official.

More Spider Than Elf; Sararit’s Newest Horror

17/07/233 ASU

Last year’s invasion of Ciratha’s Alkaline Isles was a painful, though unambiguous, success, and our foes no longer have the freedom to smuggle hostile forces into the Grand Ocean’s south-eastern sea.

The isles were defended by the brutal tyrant Olethro who used traps, sorcery, and spiders to make us pay for every inch of land.

When we inevitably defeated his army and took him into custody, Olethro was revealed to be an elf, but with mandibles aside his mouth and four large eyes. Our own kind had seemingly betrayed us, siding with the Sararit Coven and undergoing their foul alterations for cheap power.

But Olethro denied this.

“I am a druid, born and raised in Tomchaka, bred to destroy the Peldak Empire even if it costs us our lives. I have nothing more to say to you, either kill me or wait for my kin to kill you all and rescue me.”

Tests showed Olethro was an adult male elf, at least a century old, though exact age was hard to determine due to spider corruption.

Olethro claimed he was in his early 20s, which should be impossible. That’s barely older than a toddler.

The Protectorate Marshals investigated and recently discovered that Olethro’s real name is Lew Kalisz. Son of Jonathan and Amanda Kalisz. He went missing 19 years ago in Great Tendor, and was 2 years old at the time.

The Sararit Coven kidnapped an infant and turned him into an abomination.

Half a year ago, just as ‘Olethro’ claimed, a dozen spider-elf hybrids attacked the prison in Great Tendor where he was housed. They were all killed, and it was a source of great pride for the guards at the time, but apparently, they were just children.

We are going to burn Tomchaka to the ground for this.
