Diplomatic Spotlight: Chaccarn States Abandons Benefactor

09/08/187 ASU

In a shocking yet nevertheless expected display of disloyalty, the United Chaccarn States has refused to join the D’Sev Holy Imperium in the Fourth D’Sev War.

The tribal assembly released a long, rambling statement that discussed their current situation. Record population growth, the rise of literacy and advanced institutions, legislation they have planned, the adoption of new tribes and another expansion sphere into the continental interiors. The tribal assembly ended this self-aggrandizement stating that while they officially condemn the Protectorate’s ‘unwarranted act of aggression’ they were unable to provide military aid to the Imperium at this time.

This makes sense from all angles. Our invincible legions will roll over the Imperium and everyone who stands with them. The Protectorate is the UCS’s largest trading partner. The UCS’s boom is bringing untold prosperity, and they don’t want to stifle their progress. And what would they even gain? They already have three continents they can expand into, and pushing the Protectorate off-world is out of the question. A war would be certain failure without even a decent reward if they could pull it off.

Despite that, the D’Sev were their benefactors. The prosperity they’re experiencing is directly linked to the D’Sev’s efforts to modernize them.

The sayran were the ones to uplift we peldaks and if they were ever attacked we’d jump in without hesitation or knowledge of context. But that’s simply the difference between a relationship built on trust vs one built on vassalage. The peldaks and sayran value each other for more than just how we may benefit, while the partnership between the Imperium and the UCS was one of a master and his tool. At most, the master would clean and service his tool because it would make the tool more effective, but it’s not a relationship of equals.
