The Novelty Wargame: Siege Of Hondura

The wargaming genre focusing on simulating warfare has reached its logical conclusion as the zatadun company, Figurine Minatures, has partnered with Jan Baciski to develop Siege of Handura for his Eternal War For Planet Crix setting.

For those who haven’t kept up, the ‘modern’ Crix timeline is the year 27,560. The Siege of Handura was a major event first mentioned in the backstory of a few veterans in a novel 80 years ago and occurred in the Crix year of 24,999. The victory of the Zwelig Empire (zatadun) established their supremacy on the planet for the next 270 years.

The Siege of Handura wargame is fit for 2-14 players split across two factions: the invading zwelig against the defending elkani.

It has 3,600 plastic models and a campaign board split into 4 segments. The outskirts and walls, the walls and outer city, the outer city and inner walls, the inner walls and the keep.

The zwelig win if they capture the keep.

The elkani players win if they can hold out 419 days for reinforcements to arrive.

The mechanics are detailed to focus on the logistics of both sides, simulating attrition warfare. Every box of ammunition, fuel, bodies, even ration packs are accounted for.

The elkani have enough supplies to last 600 days, but their supplies will be used faster if the zwelig push.

The zwelig players have overwhelming numerical superiority and their supplies are replenished every day. This encourages them to keep attacking, though occasionally it’s better to stockpile supplies for bigger pushes.

Combat is determined on the squad level, and more players means more encounters can be settled at once.

With 14 players, a full game is estimated to last 3,100 hours.

The zatadun designed it for an elven audience, not their own people.
