Tabletop Choices For Winter Boredom

It’s never been easier to survive the boredom of the long peldan winter thanks to the spread of tabletop gaming. Here are the top choices of games according to the extensive testing by Peldan Star News.

1. Battle For Valaheren: Set in the Foarhreer Province of the Far Reaches for lovers of that trilogy, 3-8 players take the role of noble houses and battle for dominance, moving characters and assets around the board, and developing their territory. The noble houses are fair, balanced, but each comes with unique flavor to help or hinder their quest to unite the realm. The game revolves around ability cards which simulate the deadly court politics of the region.

2. DoubleWin: Set during the Dissolution Of The Leonid Empire, DoubleWin is designed for 2, 4, or 6 players split across the peldak side and the leonid side, and one neutral arbitrator. Revolving around the stalemate of trench warfare, the game is about positioning and logistics, going for an in-depth simulation of war. Each side has a ‘zone of intelligence’, meant to simulate the fog of war, and the arbitrator will pass back and forth what information their spies have been able to pick up on. The first win comes from setting up your army for success, the second win comes from the battlefield: DoubleWin.

3. The High Suns: A ‘roleplaying’ game set during the eastward expansion of Ciratha. It requires one ‘game master’ to keep everything in order, and 2-5 players. The players make custom characters according to ‘stat sheets’, giving them abilities and drawbacks. The GM will take the role of enemies in combat, and civilians during talking phases. Rather than pure fighting, THS seeks to emulate life. You’re playing the role of your character as he/she goes on a quest.
