Protectorate Purchases Property, Prioritizes Peldak Permanence

06/01/117 ASU

The Lord Protector and Senate have announced the finalized ‘land purchase’ deal with the cirathan Pel League.

The union of city states proposed the deal early last year following our defeat in the Second D’Sev War. The Protectorate would purchase over 300,000 square miles of territory on the southeastern coast of the Grand Ocean, colonists would settle the land, and then the territory would be made an official peldak state no different than any on Peldor. This, the Pel League’s negotiators argued, would provide an agricultural and manufacturing hub to support peldak legions station on Ciratha, and could provide a model for other peldak colonies on other Protectorate worlds.

The logic was sound, and most of the negotiations were about the price and logistics of handling such a colonization effort.

The new territory is currently home to 16 cirathan city-states and surrounding settlements, representing no more than 500,000 cirathans. These cities are members of the Pel League and eagerly pushed for the sale, expecting a sharp increase in trade through the rivers and coasts they currently inhabit.

The five legions stationed on Ciratha are the 6th, 7th, 41st, 42nd, and 43rd. This totals 500,000 warriors and 250,000 logistics personnel, but doesn’t count the ever-shifting numbers of young peldaks undergoing their compulsory service.

These 750,000 peldaks will have first settlement rights, and their families will be encouraged to set down roots in the new land. After 10 years, the families of soldiers across the legions will have their turn. If the permanent adult population has reached 200,000 by 130 ASU, and they have established local governance, the territory will be inducted into the Senate, with the full rights and privileges therein.
