The Kotlis Convention, currently in the central provinces of Great Tendor, has been searching for one of their missing members, Zumee. After two days of turning up nothing, Zumee’s distressed, pregnant mate, Susu, left the convention under armed guard and followed his scent. This brought the convention staff to a patch of upturned dirt in the nearby forest.

They brushed the dirt aside and quickly found Zumee’s remains. The pink diamond was ripped out of his forehead, and his body tossed in a shallow grave like he was trash.

Their diamonds can be safely detached if done carefully, and some kotlis will choose to have it removed as, when they next revert to an egg, its absence prevents them from undergoing metamorphosis into their next form. That Zumee’s body had no other prominent injuries shows that his diamond was not removed carefully.

Susu’s companion carried her back to her cot, Zumee’s companion attended to his friend’s body. The others returned to the convention and marshalled their peers, ready to burn the city of Khagasi to the ground.

It was only through the clear-headed intervention of Major Denis Bizonski, leader of the brigade that was sent to assist the search, that the would-be rioters were convinced to carry out their recriminations in a calm, orderly, and lawful manner.

No arson, no destruction, nobody dies – until they find Zumee’s diamond and everyone even tangentially related to its removal.

In accordance with anti-poaching laws, Zumee’s body was cleaned and properly embalmed. The funeral will be held two days after the perpetrators are executed.
